From Concert Crowds to Kitchen Workouts: What These 3 Moments Taught Me About Health, Resilience, and Connection
Aug 15, 2025Last weekend, I stood in a sea of strangers at the Oasis reunion gig and for the first time in as long as I can remember, I felt completely present. The energy, the voices singing in unison, the shared joy… it reminded me how deeply we crave connection.
That night, I didn’t think about my to-do list, my phone notifications, or even my work. I thought about how powerful it feels when you’re part of something bigger than yourself. And I realised; this is exactly what’s missing for so many people on their health journey.
Whether it’s recovering from illness, trying to make a change for your health, or just navigating the chaos of daily life, we all need community. Not just for motivation, but for perspective.
The Hidden Battle After Cancer
If you’ve been through cancer treatment, people will celebrate with you when it’s “over.” They’ll tell you how amazing it is that you can “get back to normal.”
But here’s the thing no one talks about: there is no going back to the “old” normal. Physically, you might be dealing with fatigue, pain, or reduced strength. Mentally, there’s the anxiety, the fear of recurrence, the loss of identity. And yet… society seems to expect you to just get on with life.
I’ve worked with so many clients in this stage... the bit after the doctors sign you off. The bit where the appointments stop, but the symptoms, the doubts, and the challenges are still very real.
This is where the right support matters most. Exercise isn’t about pushing harder or “making up for lost time.” It’s about working with your body, rebuilding safely, and creating habits that give you back confidence and control.
When the Kids Are Home and Your Routine Falls Apart
Right now, we’re in the middle of the school holidays. And for the first time, I’m experiencing the whole “term-time” parenting thing. One week in, and I’ll be honest... it’s been a shock.
No childcare. No predictable work hours. The structure I rely on for my own wellbeing? Gone.
If you’re a parent, you’ll know that trying to prioritise yourself in the middle of summer chaos feels like a luxury you can’t afford. And if you’re also dealing with your own stuff; illness, work stress, mental health struggles, it can feel like there’s no space for you at all.
But here’s what I’ve learned... health in these moments doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s about finding doable. Fifteen minutes with resistance bands in the garden. A walk to the park where you actually join in. Stretching while the kids play.
These aren’t small wins. They’re the building blocks of resilience.
The Thread That Ties It All Together
From the electric connection of a concert crowd…
To the quiet, gritty work of rebuilding life after cancer…
To the imperfect, patchwork approach to health during the school holidays…
One thing stands out: you don’t have to do it alone, and you don’t have to do it perfectly.
Health isn’t a solo mission or a straight line. It’s about community, about finding people who understand where you are right now, and about making changes that actually fit your life.
If you’re ready to take ownership of your health, whether you’re coming back from illness, starting from scratch, or simply ready to stop putting yourself last, you can build a way forward. One that honours your reality, your body, and your future.
If this resonates with you, send me a message. Tell me where you’re starting from, and I’ll share how we can build a plan that works for your life... not someone else’s.
