Health Is More Than What You See On The Surface

Sep 11, 2025

Health is often sold as something simple. Eat well. Exercise. Sleep more.

But if you’ve ever lived through health challenges, you’ll know it’s never that straightforward.

The truth? Real health is layered. It’s messy. It’s emotional. It’s about far more than what you see on the surface.

This week, I want to share three lessons... from my own life, from my clients, and from the realities we don’t talk about enough.

1. It Doesn’t Matter How Slowly You Go

We live in a world obsessed with quick fixes.

Lose 10lbs in 10 days. Get fit in 4 weeks. Transform your body overnight.

But the reality is: fast progress rarely lasts.

The clients who truly change their lives aren’t the ones who sprint at the start. They’re the ones who keep going when it feels slow. The ones who show up, even when it feels like nothing is happening. The ones who don’t stop.

It doesn’t matter if you’re moving forward at a crawl...if you keep going, the momentum builds. And one day, you look back and realise just how far you’ve come.

πŸ’‘ Consistency beats intensity. Every time.

2. Your Body Whispers Before It Screams

Recently, I noticed some changes in my own body; changes I almost brushed off. A shift in hormones. Breast discharge. The kind of thing it’s easy to tell yourself is “nothing.”

And for a moment, I almost stayed quiet.

But then I thought of my Dad. His prognosis was always going to be difficult because of the type of cancer he had. But what will always stay with me is the months he spent pushing for answers, not being listened to, and being brushed aside.

Maybe the outcome would have been the same. But maybe it wouldn’t.

And that’s why I’m speaking up. Because if I, someone who works in health, can hesitate and doubt myself, I know so many others are doing the same.

πŸ‘‰ Your body whispers before it screams.

πŸ‘‰ Don’t ignore the signals.

πŸ‘‰ Advocate for yourself. Push for answers. Never apologise for making a fuss when it comes to your health.

Sometimes that hesitation can cost far more than the discomfort of speaking up.

3. Food Isn’t Just Fuel... It’s Mood

We often talk about food like it’s just fuel. Calories in, calories out. Simple.

But nutrition affects so much more than your waistline.

πŸ‘‰ Physiologically, food impacts your brain chemistry. Blood sugar spikes, lack of nutrients, and dehydration can all influence your mood, focus, and mental health.

πŸ‘‰ But it’s also about the process.

The stress of rising food costs.

The time it takes to prep meals when you’re already stretched thin.

The pressure of knowing you “should” eat well — but not having the energy to make it happen.

And if you’re living with cancer or another health condition, that pressure multiplies. You know eating well matters, but sometimes the thought of doing it is overwhelming.

If you believe one thing I say it's this: it doesn’t have to be a complete overhaul.

Small, simple shifts can transform how you feel.

βœ… Adding one extra portion of fruit or veg

βœ… Swapping one snack for a protein option

βœ… Batch-prepping one meal for the week

These aren’t just food choices. They’re mental health tools. They give you back control, stability, and energy when life feels chaotic.

Final Thoughts

Health isn’t just about what you see on the surface.

It’s about the choices you make when no one’s watching.

It’s about listening to your body before it screams.

It’s about recognising that food fuels your mind as much as your body.

And above all, it’s about consistency; not speed.

If you take one more thing away from this, let it be this: it doesn’t matter how slowly you go, as long as you don’t stop.

And you don’t have to do it alone.

πŸ‘‰ If you’re ready to start building health that lasts; physically, mentally, and emotionally; reach out to me today. Let’s build a plan that works for your reality.
