When Life Changes, Your Health Needs You Most
Aug 22, 2025When my daughter started school this week, I thought I was ready. We’d bought the uniform, labelled everything, and talked about her first day with excitement.
What I wasn’t ready for was the emotional punch.
I didn’t expect the anxiety of not knowing what she was doing all day, who she was with, or how she was feeling. I didn’t expect the sudden lack of control; going from being involved in every moment of her day to handing her over and hoping for the best. Even at nursery, we were updated via app during the day and got a full handover at pick up time.
It floored me.
It reminded me of something I see all the time in my clients: big transitions shake us.
The Truth About Transitions
It’s easy to assume health is about the practical things: the workouts, the nutrition, the sleep.
But when life changes, that’s when the cracks show.
Transitions come in many forms:
-
Your child starting school.
-
A new job or redundancy.
-
Divorce or relationship changes.
-
Receiving a diagnosis or starting treatment.
-
Even positive things like moving house or taking on a big project.
And what happens?
Stress rises. Routines collapse. Old habits creep back in. Anxiety climbs. And suddenly, health is pushed to the bottom of the pile.
But here’s the reality: your health is most important in these moments.
Why Health Feels Impossible (But Isn’t)
When life feels uncertain, you don’t need a perfect plan.
You don’t need to overhaul everything.
What you do need is a framework that supports you when life is messy:
-
Exercise that works with your body, not against it.
-
Nutrition that fuels you without rules or extremes.
-
A mindset that helps you stay grounded and resilient, even when the world feels shaky.
That’s exactly what I help my clients build. Because health isn’t about six-packs and smoothies. It’s about being able to show up for yourself - and the people you love - when life doesn’t go to plan.
My Lesson From My 4 Year Old
Watching her walk into school was one of the hardest moments I’ve had as a parent.
But it also reminded me of this: we grow in the transitions.
It’s uncomfortable, it’s messy, but it’s also where resilience is forged.
And health; real, sustainable health - is the anchor that makes those transitions easier to bear.
Final Thought
If you’re going through a transition right now; whether it’s parenting, work, health, or something else - please know this: you don’t need to do it alone, and you don’t need to do it perfectly.
But you do need to start.
Because health doesn’t wait for the “right time.”
It’s built in the moments where everything feels uncertain.
If this resonates with you, DM me or reach out through my website. Let’s build the kind of health that holds strong, no matter what life throws your way.
